NEOFUTURISM

What is it?

Neofuturism is a type of abstract and experimental theatre. Typically categorized as an interactive performance art piece, neofuturist company members rely on the following three pillars: the time is NOW, the place is HERE, and you are WHO YOU ARE. A neofuturist play’s runtime is often an hour to an hour and a half. All plays are written in house by company members. There is a numerical menu depicting all of the plays to be performed. The audience yells out what number they want to see next, thus determining the order of the show.

Artistic Director of Cool It Cowboy Production Co, Alexandra Johnson, studied intensively with two seasoned members of The New York Neofuturists over her residency in Hempstead, New York. Christopher Dippel (Hofstra University, NYN) and Kevin R. Free (Mile Square Theatre, Audible, NYN) taught her the importance of creating work that inspires human connection and truth. This mentality to stay present and in the moment with company and audience members alike has forged itself as the core of Cool It Cowboy.
